What we are learning this week! Words of the week: me, my, at, look, see Letters of the week: We have officially learned all of our letters! Please continue working on letter recognition and sounds! Reading: This week our readers will continue working on reading all types of storybooks. We will keep working on matching the pictures to the words in our stories. The pictures help us know what the page is about but we can’t stop with the pictures. We will also begin to learn about story elements: characters, problems, solutions, and retelling stories (beginning, middle, and end). Continue making books at home “Old Favorites” by reading them over and over again! Writing: In writing this week we will begin working on writing pattern books. We are learning SO many snap words and we can use these words to create pattern books in our writing! We will use sentences like “I like ____.”, “I can ______.”, “The _____ can.”, etc. There are so many sentences we already know how to write using our snap words! When we begin writing sentences, we will need to learn all the conventions that accompany a sentence. We will be looking at how a sentence starts, ends, and everything in between. We are so excited to watch our writing grow stronger with sentence power added! Phonics: This week we will be beginning a new Phonics Unit! We are becoming word scientists in this unit. In this unit we will be word scientists as we continue to study letters and sounds. Students will be working with the alphabet charts and noticing all the sounds in words. They will get to look at different alphabet charts and notice what is the same and what is different about the charts. As students learn more and more words, watch their reading and writing grow! Math: This week we will be continuing to learn how numbers can be made in all different ways! We will move into the numbers 6 and 7. Please continue to work on “I have ____ but I want _____. How many more do I need?” for the numbers 2-7. Science & Social Studies: We will be learning all about community helpers! Students will get to choose a community helper they would want to be and share why.
