Words of the week: this, is, here, house, park, in, an, it Reading: This week in reading we are sharing our reading! We will be working on sharing our thinking with our partner during reading time. Partners are great people to share our thoughts with, what we like, and what we wonder in our stories. We don’t just say “This is funny” or “That’s cool”. We always explain why we think it’s funny or cool. We can say “This part was funny because… “ or “This page was cool because…” We can also ask questions with our partner why we read. We can say “How do you think he feels right now?” or “What do you think will happen next?” Sharing our reading helps us teach others and keeps us thinking all day long! Writing: This week in writing will be all about editing! We will work on adding sounds, snap words, sentences, capital letters, punctuation, and so much more. We are making our writing ready for readers to read this week!
Math: This week we will be focusing on parts, whole, and composing. We will be working with the numbers 6-10 to compose these numbers in more than one way. We can say what we have made by stating “__(part)____ and _(part)____ is the same as _(whole)____.” We will also be working on solving word problems using math tools (manipulatives, pictures, etc). Just like we can make numbers in so many ways, we can also solve word problems in many different ways! Continue to work on making numbers 5-10 in different ways using 2 types of manipulatives. You can ask “Please make me 6 using 2 color counters.” Make sure your student shares their answer with “____ and ____ is the same as ____” (EX: 4 and 2 is the same as 6).
Science & Social Studies: We will begin our study of energy! This week we are focusing on heat or thermal energy! Thermal energy can be used to cook, comes from the sun, and can even be made when we rub our hands together. We will explore heat/ thermal energy through experiments! Our scientists will be making predictions and then sharing their findings/ conclusions.
