What we are learning this week! Words of the week: play, say, day Reading: We are learning so many tips and tricks to make our reading even stronger. This week we are working on monitoring our reading and checking, “Does it look right? Does it sound right? Does it make sense?” If you notice that your reader is having trouble checking their reading, you could prompt them to check by saying “You said _____________. Does that make sense? Let’s look back at the words and solve it together.” Our readers will work on strengthening their snap word power, too. In our books we are noticing that there is less of a pattern that we can rely on. Our snap word power, looking at the WHOLE picture, and predicting will help us continue to grow! ***THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE: Review all snap words- check out Mabel’s Weekly Extension! Writing: Our writers are constantly trying to fix and clarify their how to books. This week is no exception! We will be working on adding comparisons to explain each step better, adding introductions and conclusions, and using the books we read and learn from throughout the day to write new how to books. As we add more to our toolboxes, we can’t forget how to keep our writing easy to read.
Math: We are entering into a new unit- addition! This week we will be learning that a number has two parts and we can add those parts together to make a whole. We will be working on solving word problems such as “Last week I was out for a run, and I saw 3 dogs. When I turned onto another street, I saw 3 more dogs. How many dogs did I see altogether?” Practice solving word problems at home with your child! Work on solving each problem in more than one way. We can solve addition problems with a picture, our fingers, and counters/manipulatives! Science / Social Studies: This week we are learning about dental health! A special guest will be visiting us to help us learn how to better care for our teeth. Here’s a fun song to make teeth brushing fun! Comments are closed.
