Writing: This week we are beginning persuasive writing! We are learning that our opinions are what we think about something or how we feel about something. Opinions are personal and we don’t have to agree! We can use opinion words like:
Some opinion books to read at home: Don’t Feed the Bear by Kathleen Doherty The Big Bed by Bunmi Laditan Karen Orloff—I Wanna Iguana and I Wanna New Room Have I Got a Book for You by Melanie Watt Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin Corduroy Writes a Letter by Alison Inches A Pig Parade Is a Terrible Idea by Michael Ian Black Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! by Mo Willems The Perfect Pet by Margie Palatini Can I Be Your Dog? by Troy Cummings What Can a Citizen Do? by Dave Eggers
Math: This week we are working with addition and subtraction! Students will listen to addition and subtraction problems and decide if they are adding more or taking away some. Some problems to practice at home: Read the problem aloud to your student. Ask them if you are adding or subtracting. Have the student choose a way to solve the problem! (manipulatives, number line, draw a picture, number sentence, etc)
Subtraction: “Take away” “less” “difference” Addition review: “More”, “add”, “plus”, “altogether” Science and Social Studies: This week we are learning about presidents and patriots. These people are very important to our country! We will be zooming in on George Washington, our first president, this week. Comments are closed.
